CC x Golden Days: Talk and Performance with Jessie Kleemann, and Martin Brandt Hansen

Monsters have always both drawn us in and pushed us away. The monster is the foreign, the unknown – the dark, where we can only make out the contours, and where imagination fills in the worst creatures it can conjure. We meet them in the myths – and sometimes right in front of us. But why don’t we just run screaming? Why is the monster so fascinating?

Artists Martin Brandt Hansen and Jessie Kleemann, both featured in the newly opened exhibition Fire & Ice – On Belonging and Becoming in Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland), work with the mythical and the monstrous in their practice. This evening we go deep into the figure and pull the mask off the beast, in a conversation about the accepted and the outcast, the so-called civilized and the uncivilized, the known and the unknown.

After the conversation, Jessie Kleemann performs ‘Qivittoq’ – the mountain wanderer who leaves the community behind and becomes something else.
