Program
- 15.09.26 (17.00-19.30): Fundamental Principles of Light and Shadow
Introduction to classical methods for representing light and shadow on an object. We work with pencil and explore how geometric forms can be described through light, shadow and tone. We develop a composition based on simple geometric forms. - 22.09.26 (17.00-19.30): Geometric Forms – Light, Shadow and Colour
We continue working with light and shadow, now using brush and colour. We explore how geometric forms can be described through a very limited colour palette, and how colour can be used to create the perception of light, shadow and space within a composition. - 29.09.26 (17.00-19.30): Introduction to Painting with Multiple Colours
We expand the palette and introduce more colours into our work. The focus is on warm and cool colours and on how different colours influence one another and affect our perception of light, shadow and form. - 06.10.26 (17.00-19.30): Repetition and New Steps Forward
We revisit the previous exercises and continue working with light, shadow, form and colour.
Through repetition, we explore the methods already introduced and, where appropriate, introduce new colours and possibilities. - 13.10.26 (17.00-19.30): Still Life – Light, Composition and Colour
We apply the techniques we have learned to the study of a still life. With a focus on light, composition and colour, we explore how the different elements can work together to describe the objects in front of us. - 20.10.26 (17.00-19.30): Continued Work with Still Life
We continue working with still life and deepen our understanding of the methods explored throughout the course. Participants may continue working with the same still life or work from a new one, depending on the process and the individual development of their work.
Accessibility
The room where the CC Skills courses are held is unfortunately not accessible by elevator. If you have significant mobility difficulties or use a wheelchair and are interested in purchasing a ticket for one of our CC Skills courses, please contact us at ccskills@cphco.org, and we will look into finding a solution.
Please note: This course only works with oil paint.
What is it that makes oil paint such a distinctive medium? In this six-week course, we explore the different qualities and possibilities of oil painting – from working with light and shadow, colour and composition to ways of describing form and space.
Through a series of practical exercises, we gradually develop an understanding of the fundamental techniques of oil painting. Throughout the course, we work with composition and still life, exploring how the different elements – light, shadow, form and colour – can work together within a painting. Each week includes practical painting exercises where techniques can be tested, explored and developed through hands-on work.
The course is aimed at adults and is suitable for both beginners and more experienced painters. The focus is on each participant’s individual development and on building an understanding of the possibilities of oil painting, allowing you to continue developing your own ideas and personal approach to painting.
The course is taught by artist Stefan Plahn, who holds an MA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. The course is based on the instructors’ education and experience from art schools and courses across Europe.
