Louka Anargyros

Leatherboys

The exhibition

On the occasion of Copenhagen Pride 2019, the sculpture Leatherboys by Louka Anargyros was on show in the foyer at CC. The sculpture consists of two male bodies, wearing motorbike suits complete with helmets, gloves, and boots, are joined in an embrace lying on the floor. The suit, an extra protective layer enveloping the body, enables the wearer to optimise his performance while realising the potential risk he is exposed to. The suits are typically adorned by colourful labels, but instead of the usual company logos, these carry the insignia of the insulting and homophobic banter Anargyros himself was exposed to in adolescence. Leatherboys is Anargyros’s graduation work from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2018.

Buy art and support a good cause

In August 2019 Louka Anargyros’ installation Power Bottom could be experienced in CC’s foyer. The installation took the form of a collection of unique hands, that were a cast of the artist’s own fist made out of painted plaster. It was as well possible to purchase the sculptures in support of the organisation Together We Push, working to improve conditions for refugee families living at the deportation center Sjælsmark Udrejsecenter. Each of the sculptures were sold for the amount of DKK 300 – or more if buyers wanted to donate a higher amount – and all money raised went exclusively to Together We Push.
