The lecture will be in Danish.

The lecture is part of CC10 – a three-day festival of performance, talks, and concerts at Copenhagen Contemporary, taking place from 23–25 January. The festival brings together artists, performers, and musicians in an intensive programme where performance unfolds across a wide range of forms and formats.

Over the course of all three days, audiences can experience a rich and varied programme of performances, talks, and concerts that activate the entire space of CC and create encounters between body, sound, movement, and storytelling.

Ever since humans first began to ponder the meaning of life and death, the butterfly has symbolized the hope of rebirth – and confronted us with life’s greatest questions: Why do we live? And what do we live for?

In the darkness of winter on the first day of the year, Lea Korsgaard makes a list. She has decided to see every Danish butterfly species within a single year. She knows nothing about butterflies. She doesn’t know why she wants to see them. She only knows that something is calling her.

The list of 64 butterflies leads her into landscapes she never knew existed. She walks on ancient seabeds and hills made of algal skeletons. She is guided to secret places by people who offer their help. And the quest leads her not only out into the Danish countryside, but also into the worlds of books, philosophy, and mythology.

This year, Lea Korsgaard’s ’Inden året er omme. Hvad 64 sommerfugle lærte mig om naturens største gåde’ was published. The book has received rave reviews, achieved bestseller status, won the Jyllands-Posten Literature Prize, and is now being translated into several languages.

Come experience this remarkable and important story told by Lea Korsgaard herself, as ’Inden året er omme.’ is transformed into a live lecture performance in CC’s iconic Hall 6.

The lecture is best experienced in connection with the British artist Monster Chetwynd’s wild and moving butterfly performance in Hall 4.
