CC x Art Week: Performance & DJ

On the occasion of Art Week, Copenhagen Contemporary invites you to an evening full of DJ sets and performances that explore the culture of sports.

The evening kicks off with a DJ set by Transparent Tim delivering a melodic queer mix of House, Disco, Afro & Techno from all corners of the universe.

After that Canadian artist Hazel Meyer will perform Muscle Panic for the first time in Denmark, which is both an installation in the exhibition Art of Sport and a performance that examines sports culture from a queer perspective. Meyer has invited five women, queer athletes, and activists to participate in the performance featuring physical activities, athletic exercises, and sports rituals in the middle of the exhibition hall.

The sports theme continues throughout the evening. In connection with the exhibition Art of Sport, Copenhagen Contemporary collaborates with the performance magazine bastard on the performance program Belated Future curated by Lotte Løvholm.

This evening, Jupiter Child – a performance artist from Mozambique – will present a performance work that examines the flag and its relation to community, colonialism and the colonized body. Historical moments such as Valdemar’s Day, Jesse Owens during the 1936 Olympics and Tommie Smith and John Carlos’ black power salute in 1968 is the inspiration for the performative work in which Child will reproduce the body and flag movements, traditionally performed by the flag bearer.

Jupiter Child is a queer visual performance artist based in Copenhagen, and their art deals with black queerness, anti-colonial intervention, feminism and empowerment. Child’s performance is based on elements from an earlier work, where they made a city walk earlier this year, during Metropolis.

Expect trippy luxurious post-techno when Morten Vammen wraps up the evening with a soundtrack tailored to CC. He has released electronic music and made soundtracks since the early 1990s under names like AUM and A*A*A and now publishes on SOFARAVE under the name Morten Vammen.

A ticket to the two performances costs normal admission to CC and gives access to all CC’s exhibitions. Find your ticket here.
