Become a part of the art

If you want to become a crucial part of an art piece, the everyday life at CC and help create sustainable repairs and meaningful encounters between people, you can now become a volunteer in Lee Mingwei’s The Mending Project.

As part of CC’s exhibition Beautiful Repair, the internationally acclaimed artist Lee Mingwei is seeking volunteers for his interactive, conceptual installation The Mending Project. You will get the opportunity to become an important part of the art piece that focuses on mending as something significant and symbolic both in relation to human relationships, our relationship with materials and the earth’s resources. It’s an important part of the work that it is facilitated by volunteers – as a volunteer you can contribute to the community and the special gesture around the art piece.

It’s not a necessity to have special abilities in sewing, but you must know how use a needle and thread and want to interact with the visitors of CC.

About Lee Mingwei and The Mending Project

Mingwei invites guests to bring a piece of clothing from home or to use what they already are wearing. Sitting at the table in the installation, a volunteer will uniquely repair and processes the garments while talking to the guest. The work consists of simple elements such as textiles, colorful thread and sewing, which become the starting point for personal meetings and storytelling. The piece has previously been presented at the Venice Biennale, Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Gropius Bau and more.

Lee Mingwei (b. 1964) creates participatory installations, in which strangers can explore issues of trust and intimacy. His works are one-to-one explorations of basic phenomena like sleeping, eating, walking and conversation. His projects are often open scenarios for daily interaction that change over the course of an exhibition. Seeking to heighten our awareness of the moment and life in the here and now, Mingwei’s work is suffused with a poetry inspired in part by life’s journey.
