Welcome to CC

Copenhagen Contemporary (CC) is Copenhagen’s international art center showing installation art created by world stars and new emerging talents.

CC occupies the magnificent former B&W welding hall, remodeled by architect Dorthe Mandrup, offering a total of 7,000 m2 of beautiful industrial halls with plenty of space to show the technical and large formats in which many contemporary artists work: total installations, performance art, and monumental video works. Art that can often be entered and sensed with the whole body.

None of the artworks require booking, but during busy hours there may be a queue.

CC \ Glyptoteket

With a ticket from CC, you can get a 20% discount on the admission fee to Glyptoteket on the same day. CC members get free admission to Glyptoteket throughout the exhibition period. The same applies in reverse for Glyptoteket visitors and CC annual pass holders.

How to get here

By car

It is possible to park your car on Refshaleøen. You will find the payment machine on the same side of Refshalevej as  CC’s building between the small roundabout (where bus 2A stops) and CC’s main entrance. Remember the registration number of the car when using the payment machine. 

Parking is also allowed with mobile payment via apps like Easypark and Mobilparkering. 

By bike

It’s easy to reach CC by bike, just 10 minutes from Kongens Nytorv. The ride along the water takes you through a historic part of Copenhagen, which today is home to the Opera House, the old naval fortifications of Holmen, Noma, and the green and gritty industrial surroundings of Refshaleøen.

By bus 2A

Turn left in the T-junction in front of the bus stop. Turn right and walk 250 meters straight ahead. The entrance to Copenhagen Contemporary is marked with a vertical sign saying “Art Center” and two large, orange C’s.

By the harbour bus

Walk down the paved path along the pier on the same side as the harbour bus docks.
When you reach the yellow house at the end, turn right and walk to the other side of the building – then follow the parking lots and walk 250 meters on Refshalevej. The entrance to Copenhagen Contemporary is marked with a vertical sign saying “Art Center” and two large, orange C’s.

Parking

Cloakroom

You are welcome to leave your belongings in our cloakroom. Larger bags and jackets are not permitted in the exhibitions.

Secure lockers are available on the ground floor by the café. It’s free to use the lockers.

Queue and waiting time

We are currently experiencing a lot visitors, which creates longer queues and extra waiting time. To avoid the waiting time, we recommend visiting us during the weekdays in the early afternoons or Thursday evenings where we are open until 9 pm.

NB: The installation Aftershock closes half an hour before CC’s closing time. Due to many guests, you may experience days when the queue is closed when you arrive. You can always get information about this upon arrival.

Refshaleøen

Refshaleøen is beautifully situated overlooking the water opposite Langelinie five kilometres from central Copenhagen — within easy reach by bike, boat, or bus. This is a different side of Copenhagen than the one you are likely to experience in the city center, which makes Refshaleøen a unique area giving both Copenhageners and tourists outdoor experiences and an opportunity to wind down.

Refshaleøen is a former industrial area which, from 1872 to 1996, was home to the pioneering shipyard Burmeister & Wain, popularly known as B&W. In its heyday, B&W was Denmark’s biggest workplace and, today, Refshaleøen is considered an icon in Danish industrial history. Formerly closed to the public, the island is now opening up with a wealth of new interesting cultural experiences.

Situated centrally at Refshaleøen in B&W’s iconic welding hall, CC is an international power hub in Copenhagen’s new cultural district. The special quality of this area continues to be defined by its industrial history: the area is raw and green with commanding views across Copenhagen Harbour. The district is a mix of first-class gourmet restaurants and small entrepreneurial initiatives; you can go for a dip in the sea, for a sauna, enjoy a glass of wine, and eat grilled food, buy quality bread and visit Copenhagen’s most popular food market with stalls from across the world and lounge areas by the water’s edge. Not forgetting the climbing, skating,and skiing activities, the flea market, and the theatre and music festivals, which are just some of the many activities this area has to offer.
