Join Dawda Jobarteh for a special album release concert as he celebrates the release of his new album, Exploring With Angels, inside Kengo Kuma’s Earth | Tree.
For this special evening, Dawda Jobarteh will be joined by a string trio to perform compositions from the new album, where the rich traditions of the West African kora meet the depth and elegance of Nordic strings. Through a close interplay between kora and classical strings, Dawda explores new sonic possibilities, bringing together West African melodies, contemporary arrangements, and original compositions in a musical universe that feels both intimate and expansive, timeless and modern.
Exploring With Angels is Dawda Jobarteh’s fifth release on the legendary British label Stern Records, which has been associated with his family since 1985. The arrangements were created in close collaboration with Tom Irvine and performed by international musicians.
Based in Copenhagen, the Gambian musician Dawda Jobarteh was born into the Jobarteh griot family, a lineage of musicians and storytellers spanning generations. His sublime playing on the harp-like kora reflects a strong connection to his musical heritage, while for decades he has continued to explore the instrument’s possibilities and develop his own musical voice across cultures, genres, and traditions. Dawda combines West African musical traditions with jazz, rock, electronic effects, and Nordic sounds, and has over the years collaborated extensively with artists on the Danish music scene, including Pierre Dørge, Stefan Pasborg, CTM, and many others.
This promises to be a truly special evening at CC.
The concert is part of the Earth | Tree Sessions series.
