Ghost Flower Ritual
About
Cecilia Fiona, Sophie Søs Meyer and Athelas
A performative total installation about the biodiversity crisis, flower spirits, occult rituals and the hope of resurrection.
Over Easter, CC presents a new cross-aesthetic exhibition and performance project, Ghost Flower Ritual, created by Danish visual artist Cecilia Fiona in collaboration with composer Sophie Meyer and the classical music ensemble Athelas. The project combines painting, sculpture, costumes, music and dance and comes to life in CC’s Hall 6 as one large living total installation through a series of live concert performances.
Ghost Flower Ritual is based on an alchemical myth about a scientist who burns a flower, only to have it sprout again from his own ashes. For the work, Cecilia Fiona has created a series of sculptures and costumes that will be activated by musicians and performers during four performance days in April.
Cecilia Fiona (b. 1997) is a Danish visual artist and performer. Her works depict dreamlike worlds filled with magic, transformation and imaginative ecosystems.
Sophie Meyer (b. 1991) is a composer and violinist, recipient of the Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl Nielsen Talent Award. Her work evokes fragile imagery rooted in extra-musical worlds.
Athelas
Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen is one of Denmark’s specialist ensembles for new compositional music and has been specially appointed by the Danish Arts Foundation to safeguard and develop Danish compositional music.
Ghost Flower Ritual will be performed as a live concert performance
