Copenhagen Contemporary and Dansehallerne invite you to an art talk celebrating the legendary performance artist and dancer Anna Halprin, on the occasion of her 100th birthday.
At the event you will meet the poetic choreographer and performance artist Vala T. Foltyn, who has studied Halprin’s choreographic works, which have been pioneering the development of postmodern dance. Foltyn talks about their close relationship, Halprin as her mentor and guide within the field of performance as well as their special exchange of experiences and inspiration.
The talk is presented in collaboration with Dansehallerne and performance artist and choreographer Vala T. Foltyn.

About Halprin
Anna Halprin was born in 1920 in the United States. At an early age she had an interest in the ritual dances of the Jewish community. She studied at the University of Wisconsin. Afterwards she moved to New York City, where she engaged in modern dance. She has challenged traditional dance methods and has, among other things, founded the first multi-ethnic dance troupe in the United States, educated HIV-infected men in San Francisco in the 1980s, organized artistic demonstrations to preserve nature, and sponsored the annual Planetary Dance ritual for peace.
About Vala T. Foltyn
Vala T. Foltyn is a choreographer, political activist, performance artist, researcher, founder and curator of Lamella – the House of Queer Arts in Poland. She is a graduate of Shahar Dor’s Artness – Home and School for Movement in Israel, as well as Performers House in Silkeborg. Foltyn is currently researching witchcraft and politics as part of her education in Artistic Research at Malmö Art Academy. She is an interdisciplinary artist where art and life are an inseparable process.
