Culture Night at Copenhagen Contemporary

For Culture Night at CC, you can experience two of the most acclaimed films by currently exhibiting artist Camille Henrot under the open sky. We’re screening them outdoors – on our large screen, completely free of charge.

Henrot is considered one of the world’s most influential living artists. She won the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale, and her work has been exhibited at museums including New Museum, Centre Pompidou and Palais de Tokyo. ARTnews has ranked her breakthrough film among the ten most important works of art of this century.

In Grosse Fatigue (2013, 13 min.), Henrot tells the story of the creation of the entire world in thirteen minutes. The film was made while she immersed herself in the vast archives of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, weaving together animal skeletons, carved figures and footage from the museum’s storage facilities with images found online. Everything unfolds in pop-up windows opening and closing across a computer desktop, while a spoken-word voice interweaves creation myths from around the world with scientific narratives. A dizzying portrait of our abundance of information – and its limits. This was the film that won Henrot the Silver Lion in 2013.

** Saturday (2017, 19 min.) follows the Seventh-day Adventist Church, where the Sabbath is celebrated and baptisms by full immersion take place on Saturdays. Filmed in the USA, Polynesia and Tonga, the film cuts between baptism rituals, food, surfing and medical examinations, while a stream of text rolls across the images – at once a source of knowledge and a desire to escape it. What remains is an immersion in hope, faith and the very human longing for a life that feels more possible.**

The films will be screened five times throughout the evening – every hour on the hour from 6 pm, with the final screening at 10 pm.

With a Culture Night wristband, you can enter the exhibition itself free of charge. There, you can experience the exhibition’s main work, Henrot’s new film In the Veins (2026), in its Scandinavian premiere – already described by Art in America as “an instant classic”.

Along the way, we’ll host short talks, you can fold origami cranes in the world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma’s installation Earth | Tree, and continue building with wood and bricks.
