Copenhagen Contemporary invites you to an exclusive artist talk and preview of the exhibition CCreate: Kengo Kuma/KKAA – Earth | Tree. Internationally renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma and partner Yuki Ikeguchi will share insights into their philosophical approach to architecture, their work, creative processes, and visions for the architecture of the future, as well as the site-specific installation opening to the public on March 28 in Hall 4.

The installation Earth | Tree is rooted in Kengo Kuma’s philosophy of “gentle architecture” and the Japanese concept of komorebi – sunlight filtering through leaves – inviting visitors to experience space, light, and materials in a sensory and embodied way.

Following the talk, guests will have exclusive access to experience the monumental installation in Hall 4.

About Kengo Kuma:

Kengo Kuma (b. 1954, Japan) is one of the most influential architects of our time, known for his material-sensitive approach to architecture. Through an extensive international practice, he has worked with natural materials and site-specific solutions, creating architecture that enters into close dialogue with its surroundings. His work spans museums and cultural buildings to temporary installations and experimental projects, with a focus on sensorial experience and human scale. In Denmark, KKAA is known for the award-winning H.C. Andersen Museum in Odense, as well as the upcoming water culture house on Papirøen in Copenhagen, expected to open in autumn 2026.

About Yuki Ikeguchi:

She is a Partner architect and The Executive VP of KKAA Paris. She has been leading major projects abroad with focus in public and cultural projects in Europe Including Water Culture House and  HC Andersen Hus. The fundamental in her approach is biophilic design that appeals to our senses, to generate the form of architecture in response to the surroundings, culture, history, and to the life between buildings through in-depth observations in micro/ macro scales simultaneously.
